AGE™

Tutorial - Information

The Sample Application has now answered the phone and asked the caller what they want to do.  We now need to add to the application the ability to provide information to the caller's regarding directions to the restaurant and/or the hours of operation.

The way AGE/RAGE handles providing information is through the Play Point.  The Play Point does exactly what it sounds like it would.  It simply Play's a Voice Segment.

To begin construction of the Play Point click on the Play Insert button from the Insert Toolbar.  The Icon on the Menu Button is shown at the Left.  Alternatively, you may select the Play Point choice from the Insert Menu.

Clicking on this button (or selecting the Play Point choice from the Insert Menu) brings up the Play Point Dialog shown below:

The buttons on the Play Point Dialog are described fully in the Play Point topic.  For this sample application we will only need to effect the "Prompt" button and the "Name".

All points within AGE are identified by unique names.  For this sample we will use the name "Directions" for the Play Point which will be active when we select Menu choice 1, which requests directions to the restaurant.  So, put your cursor in the box next to Name and type "Directions".

Next, click the button labeled <Undefined> next to the words "Prompt".  The "Set Wave File" dialog comes up.  Use of the Set Wave File dialog was covered completely in the previous topic, Sample Application Menu.  So, we will just give you brief instructions this time.

We will want to create a Voice Segment we will call Directions in the same directory with the other Voice segments.  The Voice Segment should contain something like "From I25 North Bound take the Colfax Exit.  Turn Right, or East on Colfax.  Continue East on Colfax for 2 miles to Glenarm Place.  Turn Left, or North, on Glenarm Place.  Our Parking lot is the first on the Right.  Our address is 1222 Glenarm Place, Denver, Colorado."

Once you have clicked "OK" in the Set Wave File dialog the Play Point Dialog will look something like this:

To complete inserting the Play Point click on the "OK" button.  The cursor will change to a cross hair.  Put the cursor at the location you wish to insert the Play Point (a good spot would be To the left of the Number 1 cleat on the Menu Point and half inch below the Menu Point) and click on the right mouse button.  The application will look something like the following illustration when you are done.

Next we need to add another Play Point for the Hours of Operation.  To do this click on the Play Point button again to bring up the Play Point dialog.  Name this Play Point "Hours" and make a Voice Segment called "Hours" which sounds something like this:  "Our Hours are from 11:30 AM to 2:00 AM Tuesday through Saturday.  We are closed on Sundays and Mondays."

You should then place this Play Point just to the right of the Directions Play Point.  Note that you can move the icons around in the work area by clicking and dragging them around in the work area.  When you are finished the work area should look something like the following:

The next step is to allow the caller to record a request for a reservation.  So continue to the next step click HERE.
